About the Event

The Multiplier Event in Limassol, organised by ITML CY (IOTAM) in collaboration with the University of Limassol, brought together legal professionals, academics, researchers, civil society representatives, and stakeholders from the justice sector to explore the opportunities and challenges associated with AI-supported recidivism risk assessment.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about the FAIR-PReSONS project, its objectives, methodology, and key results, including the development of an explainable and fairness-aware AI system for recidivism risk assessment. Special attention will be given to the ethical, legal, and societal implications of using artificial intelligence in criminal justice contexts, with a focus on transparency, gender sensitivity, bias mitigation, and human oversight.

The event also featured a live demonstration of the FAIR-PReSONS Recidivism Risk Assessment System, allowing participants to explore how AI-driven tools can support research, training, and evidence-informed discussions in justice and correctional settings. Through presentations and open dialogue, the event aimed to foster a shared understanding of responsible AI use in justice and to encourage discussion on the potential relevance of such approaches within the Cypriot legal and institutional context, in alignment with European values and standards.
