We are thrilled to announce the successful kick-off of the FAIR-PReSONS project! Our team gathered for an energizing and productive meeting in Athens, Greece to lay the groundwork for this ambitious initiative, which aims to develop a bias-free AI system for fair recidivism prediction. With a strong focus on gender equality and compliance with EU legislation on non-discriminative AI, the project seeks to ensure that the system benefits all individuals fairly. Key moments from the kick-off included introductions to the project’s goals, presentations by each Work Package leader outlining their plans and milestones, and discussions on collecting, digitizing, and documenting critical data from prisons and criminal justice organizations in line with EU standards.
The team also established several committees to guide the project’s implementation, including a dedicated Ethics Committee, and agreed on using project management tools like Trello and Teamwork to streamline coordination. As we embark on this important journey, we are eager to leverage advanced AI technologies to create meaningful change within the criminal justice system.
